Wake up, spring's a comin'!!!!
Hello Garden Gals and Guys!!!!
It's been awhile, hasn't it?! I trust that everyone had an enjoyable Christmas (or Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, etc.) and wonderful New Year!
I don't know about you, but I'm done with winter. I was done the day after Christmas! I'm ready for spring to come in all her glory!
There's a new development in Big Fat Earth. I went to visit Cathy and we talked about last year's growing season and what we would like to do this year. When I pulled up to the farm, there was an assault on my visual senses!
Last year, this was the view as I stood at the top of the garden and looked down:
See the lovely tree line? A lovely, peaceful oasis, right?
Take a gander at what I saw when I visited this past Saturday:
Yes...the tree line is gone. There is a new housing development coming up just beyond the property line. I knew it was coming. I guess it was just a shock because I hadn't seen my lovely garden space since September. Here's more of the madness:
Now below is a more close-up view. It's a good little walk down right to the edge of the land. At least it's not right on top of the garden....but still too close, darnit!!!
Developers....ya gotta love 'em.....NOT!!!!! Well, I am thankful that I still have land to grow on. Maybe I'll just get a REALLY huge piece of paper and have my daughter paint a nice farm scene to hang as my backdrop! I can just see my garden slowly awakening, wiping the winter from her sleep eyes and saying "ahhhhh spr.....what the hell?!"
But enough of that. A few developers won't stop me! The seed catalogs have been pouring in since December and hubby, the kids and I will be choosing what we want to grow this year.
Last year's watermelons were such a success that this year I want to grow a variety called rattlesnake that is more of an oblong shape with light green stripes throughout. One watermelon can grow up to 200 pounds!!! Yup, you read that right!
Well, until next time garden gals and guys....
Happy garden thoughts!!!!!
